New PB at Sonoma Raceway (1:55.28) ..that could have been 1:54.9x
Переглядів 27021 день тому
Welp, yet another PB affected by a slow car at the end of the lap. Lost ~0.4 seconds in T11, because I wasn't sure how slow the car was going, and didn't want to crash into their rear bumper. To add to the insult, RaceChrono failed to connect to the GPS and I failed to notice that, so as a result I don't have any CAN data from this session. New PB at Sonoma Raceway (1:55.836)

[Recorded in March 2024] The Sonoma race is smooooth and at least 1.5s faster after the repave, and a joy to drive. The new surface somehow makes tires howl as they approach the limit, making it much easier to find the real limit. This is the weirdest PB that I remember. The red Lexus in front of me was holding me back starting from T7 and at that point I knew the lap was done. But I kept hopin...

Back to Laguna Seca with 86 Challenge! I had a couple laps later where I was slightly quicker, but got blocked/interfered by traffic. Oh well :) Good enough for a provisional P2 in class. Car felt great, and I had a lot of fun experimenting with lines and my technique in the later (hotter) sessions. Only had three sessions before it got too hot and we headed home, but it was still fun playing around with the corners backwards to how we usually drive them. 4th time at Buttonwillow. Had issues with traffic in the first two sessions, then only had a couple of laps in session 3 to set an "ok" lap time as the track was getting slower by the minute. A few spots were taken pretty conservatively on this lap. 0.7s off my own PB. At least the opt lap was 2:04.7. I was curious to measure how tire width affects lap times for a while. Back in 2018, I remember telling my friend that I believe that most drivers can't drive fast enough for the difference between tires of the same compound but slightly different sizes to matter. Tire Rack also recently posted a couple of relevant comparisons of different tire and wheel sizes that are now often referenced in v...

First time driving on a race track at night!
considering how bad these tires are, really good/fast lap, so smooth, maintaining the grip at the limit all the time... I did a 1:56.18, but with a much better tire. What do you currently have on the car?
ops, just saw the description
Nice, even with the sabotage point by. You should try it with better tires some day.

Do you not run an oil cooler? Also could you speak a little bit to any additional reliability mods for track you might have?

Good stuff man. Thanks.
Wow that was close with the Lexus! Well done for the PB. BTW, what version of RaceChrono are you using?
See the answer in the description 🙂
I was looking for the app version of Racechrono.
Awesome lap. That pass at speed had a pucker moment ha ha.
Well that was a tight point by... nicely navigated
What TC setting were you on? I understand the Gen 2 cars allow you to turn everything off without doing the pedal dance.
@@tomwhitaker2074 Long press on the left button, same as a long press on a 2017-2020 gen 1.
😂woah the new exhaust sound 👍 such dudududu
No need for some lube grease on the back of the the pads?
The OEM pads use some grease on the back, but track folks typically don't bother using grease on their pads. I never added any new grease to the OEM pads and never had an issue with them. YMMV though.
Nice driving. The white car in front of you was out of control. The first sign was almost losing it going over Phil Hill. All good, can't say they weren't sending it lol. It was cool having all 86's in our run group. Not sure if we crossed paths. I was in car #728, 23 White BRZ.
I almost lost the lap because of laughing coming out of the Sweeper :D We might have crossed paths, but I don't remember for sure. Might be able to check my full videos later!

Great lap. I need to take notes and see what I can do to get close to that with my mostly stock GRC. My current PB is a 1:30.00.
I should have saved money and went 17x8 + 225 instead of 17x9 245
u were driving the fuck out of that car man, good shit
Do you know how many heat cycles on each set?
I didn't count exactly, but should be ~5 cycles per day. I can calculate later.
@@TimurIskhodzhanovI was just curious if they had similar heat cycles as it can impact times quite a bit
@@geeser1000The 245s definitely had ~10 more heat cycles. That being said, SX2s are not nearly as sensitive to heat cycles as many other tires. Some of my best TT results were set on SX2s with 50+ heat cycles.
@@geeser1000Even if heat cycles are part of the picture here, a "lightly used 215 is as fast as a slightly more used 245" would also be interesting!
@@TimurIskhodzhanov seems like any additional lateral grip from 245 is mitigated by additional straight line speed from 215 tire.
hey, that is very NICE driving! I was thinking about going front 22mm and rear 19 mm for the sway bars, do you think that is good, or too much?
Thanks! Car suspension is a complex system and I can't possibly give a useful answer to this question without understanding the rest of the setup. What spring rates do you have/plan to have, and what tires/level of grip do you target?
I'll prob be on same street tires, yokohama V601, springs I'm not too sure, on Ohlins R&T factory springs. I don't even know how much spring rate they came with. @@TimurIskhodzhanov
found the spring rates, front&rear 5kg/mm@@TimurIskhodzhanov
@@casgarageSorry, I somehow missed your replies. For 5k/5k rates and slightly more grip that those tires generate, I think those bars would be adequate. You can always fine tune with the rear bar if needed.

Nice driving as always.
Nice! Glad you got a pass at second haha
Looks impressive even in low - resolution (I was eager to watch before the HD version was available). Well done!
Nice. I'm going to have to copy your RC layout.
🚀 Bye Porsche 🚀
Nice lap! I like to play my lap simultaneously with other ppls laps to see where the time difference comes from haha
Have you looked into data analysis? Much more insightful and time-efficient.
@@TimurIskhodzhanov no I haven’t. I feel I’m slowly getting out of the track scene.. sad times
Nice!
Great driving!
Hi Tim, really nice lap and it was great to meet you! I noticed that you and a lot of other 86DC drivers have a front BBK. Is that mostly for Laguna, or does it make a difference on other tracks too, even with SX2s?
There's not much difference in performance if you run quality brake pads, but if you plan to do a lot of track days it will probably be cheaper in the long run to run a BBK with larger pads and rotors. Bigger pads typically don't cost much more than OEM size, but last a lot longer. Additionally, the pistons in OEM calipers tend to get stuck over time, and require periodic rebuilds.
Is there a mode on the Hero11 Mini similar to the stabilizer on the Hero5 Session without leveling the horizon?
Yes! But then you have fewer mounting options. With Horizon Lock enabled, you can put the camera at any angle to the horizon (I did 90⁰) and it will still produce level video.
@@TimurIskhodzhanov I have the camera up side down under the bar of my bicycle and leveling the horizon would remove all the movements of the bike. The Hero5 Session still works very well for me, but the image quality of the 11 Mini is so much better, now that I have seen your video. It hurts..
@@heinblod571 Upside down should be fine without Horizon Lock, it will automatically pick what's up and what's down (you might need to fiddle a bit with the settings).
Using pliers to pull pins out only damaged the pins so they won’t slide correctly. You messed up good brakes
Lol they won’t mess up the pins taking them out like that. Do u just go on videos and find things to hate on?
Why did you replace nice pads with crappy old pads and not even clean brakes or lubricate them? This video makes no sense
This video is meant for track drivers who need to frequently swap between track and street pads
Do you know even know what the fuck you're talking about?
Nice driving Timur.
